Why helping people matters

The impact of Coronavirus (Covid19) will be felt around the world for many years. In such a short space of time, we as humans have adapted quickly to a new way of life, impacted by the effects of the virus as well as complying with new government guidelines to keep socially distanced from other people to keep people safe, protect the NHS, saving lives.

For some people in society, including those who are older, unwell or vulnerable, it is a very worrying time. If you’re caring for someone, living alone or having to self-isolate, it is completely understandable you may be anxious.

Over the course of seven weeks, key workers at Crossroads have supported more than 700 people with shopping and prescription services as well as supporting nearly 1800 people with telephone befriending calls. The numbers are simply numbers, but each one tells a story – demonstrating the impact of how help matters.

Rachel tells us “You going out to the chemist for us is such a relief for me as we can both remain safe inside our home. Due to our health conditions we are very vulnerable and so there is every chance that we could catch this horrible virus. I can honestly say that you literally save our lives each and every time you go out to pick prescriptions up for us. We are so grateful for your continuing help.”

If you need additional information, support or help with essential shopping, please do get in touch. If we can’t help, we’ll find an appropriate service to sign post you to.
