We are Crossroads Care Surrey, the charity for unpaid carers. We are delighted to meet you!
We understand the love and sacrifice that unpaid carers make every day. Our mission is to offer them much needed breaks, giving them a few hours of respite to recharge. Our support includes respite breaks, companionship visits, end of life support and emergency care, all vital services in preventing burnout.
We support over 3,500 people every year, and rely on donations to continue our work, especially during Christmas time when life can get very lonely for unpaid carers. Just £25 can support a 1 hour respite break for an unpaid carer in Surrey.
There’s a real need for our work in the community. A recent survey of the unpaid carers we support showed 8 in 10 spend over 40 hours a week caring for a loved one, and 6 in 10 say what they need most is a break.
Jane*, 81, knows this well. As her husband Patrick’s* unpaid carer, she’s been by his side through Parkinson’s and dementia. She explains that “even in her dreams” she is on constant alert. Thanks to our respite breaks, Jane can enjoy activities she loves while knowing Patrick is in safe hands. It gives her the peace of mind to care for her own health too. In her words, our support “keeps me sane.”
