Our volunteers are heroes who help to make a difference to the lives of carers

At Crossroads we need your help year round

We truly appreciate the commitment every volunteer makes to help us realise our vision for every carer to be recognised, supported and offered services to help them maintain their own health and well-being.

Whether you give your precious time to work directly with the people we support, volunteer your skills, or fundraise. It doesn’t matter whether you give a little or a lot, what matters is you care.  On behalf of those we care for and their carers who deserve a break from caring, thank you for considering a volunteer role with us.

Because of you, carers can keep caring.

There’s a volunteer role to suit everyone, why not apply for one of our roles listed below.

Volunteer Roles

Companionship in the Home

Carers we help need support with their loved ones at various stages of care giving. Can you help give someone with care needs time, by just being a companion and helping with simple care tasks for a few hours each week? You will engage the cared-for person in conversation or activities such as puzzles, games, crosswords, soduku, garden centre visits and coffee shop trips.

Befriending by Phone

Could you support people who care for loved ones with companionship during respite? We’re looking for volunteers who understand how caring can impact people’s lives; someone who will take time out to listen, understand and be a friend for carers who simply need a break. Caring can be exhausting and socially isolating – could you give our Carers your time by providing telephone or
video call befriending support?

Community Shopping Support

Throughout Covid-19 we have been supporting carers, their loved ones and vulnerable or at-risk people who have been shielding because of age or illness with essential food shopping, prescription medication collections and more.  From our research, we know the shopping service has made an impact, benefiting people who really do need to continue to rely on our support going forward – can you be part of making a difference to someone’s life?

Full training and a DBS check will be included depending on the role applied for

Community Ambassador / Fundraiser

Can you help us raise awareness of the role unpaid-carers do in our society today? People who care for loved ones often do so to the detriment of their own health & wellbeing. Can you help us by spreading the word about our work caring for carers? We’d like you to visit schools, community groups, including churches and supermarkets; attend local events to promote and fundraise for carers to ensure our charitable work can remain sustainable, helping more carers when they need it.

Volunteer Fundraisers

With 2 in every 3 people taking on unpaid care for a loved one in a life-time, you too may find yourself a carer one day.

We’re looking for volunteers to take on a personal challenge in support of those who care. Why not, run, walk, cycle or skip for Crossroads Care Surrey? In the current climate, perhaps even organise a virtual fundraising event like a comedy or quiz night with your friends and family.
