Marcelisa Celeste, Carer Support Worker at Crossroads Care Surrey, will be tackling the renowned Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on April 5th to raise vital funds for the charity.
“The phenomenal clients I have inspired me to find ways to support the charity, and with a love of hiking, this was the ideal fit,” explains Marcelisa.
As a Carer Support Worker for Crossroads Care Surrey, supporting the charity was a natural choice. “I have personal experience of witnessing the exceptional care Crossroads Care Surrey offers,” she shares. “Rose, a fellow Carer Support Worker, was invaluable in supporting and caring for an elderly relative. I was so deeply grateful but also impressed by their commitment and dedication.”
Since October, Marcelisa has been rigorously training – focusing on building endurance with daily workouts, runs, and long walks around Oxted. “Over the course of the next few months, I’ll be hiking the Brecon Beacons and North Wales to really test my limits,” she says.
“Having achieved this challenge three times before, the nerves are not there,” admits Marcelisa. “That said, anything can happen on the day. It’s certainly a long walk that requires the right preparation.
“My hope is that the money can go to the people who perhaps aren’t always able to afford our services. Ideally, they can help to make a difference in at least one person’s life. No one deserves to live out their remaining days without care and support,” says Marcelisa. “We will all require this at some stage of our life or have a loved one who would benefit from this level of care.”
“I have always loved hiking and have only fond memories of my time in the Peaks and other areas,” shares Marcelisa. “Beyond this, for me, the experience gives me peace and serenity. I feel it increases my mental and physical wellbeing, something we can all benefit from.”
