Banstead community come out in droves to support carers despite the downpour

Saturday, 7 August saw Banstead Community Fair finally come alive. It’s been two long years since the event was last brought to the community, and earlier this summer the event had to be postponed again because of the extension of the easing of Covid-19 restrictions in July. So when the heavens opened up very early on Saturday morning with thunder, lightening and a deluge of rain we did suspect another delay. However, in true British resolve the organisers from Banstead Rotary along with the community rallied together and braved the weather to ensure this annual event could happen for all.

Cllr Jill Bray opened the event talking about the challenges of the last two years including for how difficult it’s been for local charities. She thanked the community for their support of the day and wished all a great family day out.

Crossroads Care Surrey, a local charity supporting carers were on hand, talking about how they help carers through specialist support services, including respite care, befriending calls, companionship and outreach. The public supported carers through the charity’s active fundraising programme, including a raffle prize draw which saw one lucky supporter win big in the charity raffle! Donations of £356 on the day will support the charity’s core work with carers and their families.

Thank you Banstead.
