Surrey Carers Card

Here at Crossroads Care Surrey, we – along with our colleagues at Surrey County Council and the NHS – know what an amazing and valuable job you do in your caring role. We are all about championing the recognition of carers and your rights. We want all carers to become a Surrey Carers Card holder, to highlight your caring status and allow you to access to a host of excellent discounts and offers.

We also know that one of your worries might be what would happen to the person you care for if you were to have an accident yourself, or suddenly be called away or taken ill.

You can choose from two types of card, both of which highlight your caring role if you are suddenly unavailable:

• The first option simply contains the contact details of your substitute carer and is a good option if you already have a trusted second person who can step in to provide care.
• The second option comes with a unique reference number, which enables a personalised Emergency Care Plan to kick into action, 24/7, and comes with up to 48 hours of emergency support.

Both types of Surrey Carers Card are funded by Surrey County Council and the NHS and are completely free to you. You will never be asked to pay, so please be aware of any other organisations who may try to charge you for a similar service.

Surrey Carers Card features:

• Card and key-fob with your emergency contact’s phone number, so they can be contacted to step in and provide care.

• Access to a range of perks and benefits for unpaid carers.

Carers Emergency Card features:

• Card and key fob.

• Our phone number and your unique reference number printed on the card/fob.

• Access to our fully-funded Emergency Care Planning Service (see details below).

• Access to a range of perks and benefits for unpaid carers.

Benefits of the Surrey Carers Card

If you are an unpaid carer who lives in Surrey or cares for someone who lives in Surrey, both types of Surrey Carers Card will provide you with two key benefits:

• Your card/fob identifies you as a carer and highlight that someone depends on you

• You will have access to a range of discounts and benefits

Emergency support for the person you care for

By selecting this option, we will work with you and the person for whom you care to write a comprehensive care plan – enabling someone you know or one of our trained staff members to step in and provide short-term care in an emergency situation.

This will give time for you, family, friends or other relevant organisations to consider the best options, should you not be able to return to your caring role for a longer period.
