{"id":13710,"date":"2023-08-02T10:54:49","date_gmt":"2023-08-02T10:54:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/crossroadscaresurrey.org.uk\/directory\/?post_type=citadela-item&#038;p=13710"},"modified":"2025-10-21T12:06:04","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T11:06:04","slug":"the-challenging-behaviour-foundation","status":"publish","type":"citadela-item","link":"https:\/\/crossroadscaresurrey.org.uk\/directory\/item\/the-challenging-behaviour-foundation\/","title":{"rendered":"The Challenging Behaviour Foundation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Challenging Behaviour Foundation (CBF) is a registered charity that was founded in 1997 by Vivien Cooper OBE, the parent of a child with severe learning disabilities whose behaviour challenges.<\/p>\n<p>We are the only charity focussed specifically on children, young people and adults with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.challengingbehaviour.org.uk\/understanding-challenging-behaviour\/what-is-challenging-behaviour\/what-is-a-severe-learning-disability\/\">severe learning disabilities<\/a>\u00a0whose\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.challengingbehaviour.org.uk\/understanding-challenging-behaviour\/\">behaviour challenges<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>How do we make a difference?<\/h3>\n<p>We are making a difference to the lives of children, young people and adults with\u00a0severe learning disabilities whose behaviour challenges, by:<\/p>\n<h4>Providing information<\/h4>\n<p>We provide\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.challengingbehaviour.org.uk\/information-and-guidance\/\">practical information<\/a>\u00a0for families and professionals about understanding and supporting children, young people and adults whose behaviour challenges.<\/p>\n<h4>Providing support<\/h4>\n<p>Our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.challengingbehaviour.org.uk\/for-family-carers\/family-support-service\/\">Family Support Workers<\/a>\u00a0can offer individual support and information\u00a0over the phone and by email. We also offer peer-to-peer support through our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.challengingbehaviour.org.uk\/for-family-carers\/peer-support\/\">Carers\u2019 Catch-Ups<\/a>, and email networks for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.challengingbehaviour.org.uk\/for-family-carers\/family-carers-email-network\/\">family carers<\/a>\u00a0and for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.challengingbehaviour.org.uk\/for-professionals\/professional-email-network\/\">professionals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>Running workshops<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.challengingbehaviour.org.uk\/workshops\/\">We offer a range of workshops<\/a>\u00a0to families and professionals, co-delivered by a professional trainer and a family carer trainer. Our workshops have been found to reduce challenging behaviour and have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.challengingbehaviour.org.uk\/workshops\/workshops-the-benefits\/\">positive outcomes<\/a>\u00a0for families and professionals who attend.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Speaking up for families on a national level<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>We listen to the experiences of families and use these to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.challengingbehaviour.org.uk\/what-we-do\/strategic-influencing\/\">highlight the needs<\/a>\u00a0of individuals whose behaviour challenges and their families. We set up and \u00a0chair the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.challengingbehaviour.org.uk\/what-we-do\/national-strategy-group\/\">Challenging Behaviour \u2013 National Strategy Group<\/a>\u00a0working to promote high quality support for people whose behaviour
