It is the only UK charity representing the needs of over half a million young siblings and over one and a half million adult siblings.<\/p>\n<h2>Young siblings<\/h2>\n<p>Children and young people growing up with a disabled brother or sister often get less attention from parents and have more worries and responsibilities than their peers. Many young siblings experience daily challenges in their lives such as public prejudice and finding it hard to get schoolwork done. They also need recognition for the positive aspects of their family lives, such as learning new skills and being supportive of their brothers\u2019 and sisters\u2019 needs.<\/p>\n<h3>Direct support for young siblings<\/h3>\n<p>We run\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sibs.org.uk\/\">www.sibs.org.uk<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 an online information service for children and young people aged 7-17, who have a brother or sister who is disabled, has special educational needs or a serious long-term condition.<\/p>\n<p>Young siblings can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Get information about disability and conditions, and tips for enjoying life and dealing with feelings.<\/li>\n<li>Get help from our team with sibling issues at home and at school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Help for others to support young siblings<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>We train professionals to run\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sibs.org.uk\/supporting-young-siblings\/siblings-group-leaders\/\">sibling support groups for children<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>We train primary school staff to deliver our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sibs.org.uk\/supporting-young-siblings\/siblings-schools-project\/sibs-talk\/\">Sibs Talk support intervention<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>We provide\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sibs.org.uk\/supporting-young-siblings\/\">information for parents and professionals<\/a>\u00a0on supporting siblings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Adult siblings<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Adult siblings, in particular those with a brother or sister with a lifelong learning disability and\/or autism, provide support, advocacy and care for their brothers and sisters, at the same time as juggling support and care for their elderly parents, their own children, and their work. They rarely receive any acknowledgement of their role or expertise, information about service provision, or support for their own needs. As a result many adult siblings experience isolation, reduced wellbeing and negative effects on their work and finances. Many adult siblings just want to enjoy social time with their brother or sister rather than time together being focused on care tasks.<\/p>\n<h3>Support for adult siblings<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We provide email support for adult siblings.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We run a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sibs.org.uk\/support-for-adult-siblings\/adult-sibling-support-groups\/\">network of peer support groups<\/a>\u00a0for adult siblings of people with a lifelong disability.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We produce\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sibs.org.uk\/support-for-adult-siblings\/guides\/\">guides for adult siblings<\/a>\u00a0of people with a lifelong learning disability and\/or autism on issues such as future planning and managing care.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We run workshops and events for adult
