Coronavirus: A pledge to support carers and vulnerable people with care needs across Surrey

Crossroads Care Surrey pledge to work with the wider community to support more vulnerable people who may have care needs and are under strict self-isolation without the help and support of friends, family or neighbours.

The charity will offer their support via local authority volunteer hubs and urges other charities and the public who want to help, to link up in this planned and coordinated way. It is hoped by working together in this way, everyone who needs a helping hand will be offered one.

The charity is ideally set up as employs more than 150 Carer Support Workers who are trained, checked and regulated by both the Care Quality Commission and Disclosure Barring Service (DBS). The core purpose sees Crossroads supporting carers and their families by looking after those with care needs so their main carer can access respite time.

Crossroads is very fortunate to remain funded at this time meaning they can adapt services for beneficiaries in a creative way, helping more people, including those waiting to access a service as well as the wider community who may need additional help during this most unprecedented time of Coronavirus.

An important contact service will be offered to more than the 900 families Crossroads already works with to offer reassurance, compassion and a friendly ear for many people who are frightened and alone. In addition, the charity will be on hand to support in a more practical way by way of collecting prescriptions, essential supplies and food.

Although, the charity has now ceased all face to face operations, Crossroads Care Surrey urges others who may need help who do not already have a Crossroads service to request help via professional partner. This may be your Local Authority, medical professional or a charity such as Age UK, Parkinson’s, Dementia UK or the YMCA.

Additionally, if you are interested in supporting this project as a volunteer, please get in touch with a local volunteer hub in your area.
